About the Ride
Your day will begin with a personal pickup by your English-speaking driver from your hotel or apartment in Berlin. After a short one-hour drive, you will arrive at Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp—the site where thousands of innocent Jews were brutally executed by the Gestapo, the secret police of Nazi Germany.
Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp was constructed a few years before the start of World War II. Located 35 km from Berlin, it initially served as a training centre for Schutzstaffel (SS) officers. In the early years, executions took place in ditches, either by hanging or shooting. However, with the later introduction of gas chambers, the Nazis were able to murder even larger groups of prisoners. In total, around 30,000 people were executed at Sachsenhausen, most of whom were innocent Jews.
As you walk through the expansive grounds of the concentration camp, you will learn about the tragic history of the Jewish people and the atrocities committed by the Nazis during World War II. You will gain insight into what daily life was like for the prisoners, as well as have the opportunity to visit the sites of the executions.
