About the Ride
Your day will begin with a personal pick-up by your English-speaking driver from your hotel or apartment in Athens. After a brief introduction, you'll board your private vehicle and start your journey through the Thessaly region, heading towards the stunning geological wonder of Meteora.
-Hotel pickup and dropoff from a professional English Speaking driver
- 100% Customisable & Private tour
The 4-hour drive will take you through the picturesque Greek countryside, allowing you to enjoy the changing landscapes as you make your way to your destination in Kalambaka.
Along the way, you’ll have the opportunity to stop and admire the statue of *Leonidas of Sparta* and the *300 Monument* in Thermopylae, where you can capture some memorable photos. Throughout the journey, your driver will share local insights and suggest photo opportunities at key landmarks. However, as the tour is fully customizable, you’re free to decide where and how long you'd like to stop at each point.
Upon arriving in Kalambaka, you will be taken up to the top of the towering cliffs to visit two of the incredible monasteries perched on the steep rocks of *Meteora*. During this part of the tour, you’ll step back in time to the Dark Ages, learning about the monks who first scaled these jagged cliffs and established the foundations of what is now Meteora’s monastic community. Of the original 30 monasteries, only 7 remain active today, and these have been recognised as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
After exploring the historic monasteries, you’ll make your way back down to Kalambaka, where you can immerse yourself in the local culture and enjoy an authentic Greek lunch. From Kalambaka, you can take in the full scale of the Meteora rock formations, with their immense sandstone peaks towering above, providing a perfect backdrop for unforgettable photos and a chance to appreciate Greece’s natural beauty.
No visit to Kalambaka is complete without stopping by the *Theopetra Cave*, a remarkable archaeological site. The limestone formations of Theopetra date back to the Upper Cretaceous period (137–65 million years ago), and the cave has been inhabited since the Middle Paleolithic period (around 100,000 years ago).
After savouring some local delicacies, you’ll begin your journey back to Athens, with one last stop at Kamena Vourla before heading back to your accommodation in Athens.
